Piano by DESign is proud to participate in festivals and recitals offered by both the Plano Music Teacher's Association (PMTA) and the North Texas Music Teacher's Association (NTMTA).

Festivals

Festivals are adjudicated events, based on a particular theme, genre of music, or classical period. Students perform selected pieces from memory in front of a judge. Judges provide feedback on a comment form, and rate the students' performance on a scale of 1-5 (high-low). Ratings are assigned a point value which can accumulate through continued annual participation in the same festival to earn trophies. It is possible for students to earn multiple trophies for the same festival.

PMTA Festivals include: American, Fall (Classical), Broadway/Movie/Pop, Sacred, and International/Folk.

NTMTA Festivals include: Fall (open repertoire), Pop & Jazz, Sacred/International/Folk, and Spring (open repertoire)

Students are encouraged, but not required, to participate in a minimum of one festival of their choosing each year.

Recitals

Recitals are performance opportunities where students from multiple studios gather to showcase their skills and repertoire. Although memorization is strongly encouraged, it is not required. Family and friends are invited and encouraged to attend recitals. Students are recognized at the conclusion of each recital and may receive a ribbon for participation at the discretion of the Recital Chair. Most recitals are organized around a general theme, and repertoire selections should reflect and support the recital theme. High School and Honors Recitals are by teacher selection only; Honors Recital participants are limited to one per studio. PMTA Recitals are held at Steinway Hall in Plano. NTMTA Recitals are held at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in McKinney.

PMTA Recitals include: All-Boy, Halloween, Jazz & Pop, Duet & Ensemble, High School and Honors

NTMTA Recitals include: Holiday, Honors
